CAMBER

If you stand in front of a race car and look at the front wheels you will see that they are angled instead of straight up and down. Camber is the angle at which a tire makes contact with the racetrack. Positive camber means the tire is tilted away from the car while negative camber indicates the tire is tilted toward the car. A typical oval track setup would have positive camber in the left front and negative camber in the right front to help the car make left-hand turns. But the crewchief has to be very careful how he adjusts the camber on the front end of the car. Too much and the tire will wear funny and sometimes it can cause the suspension to break. Enough is just right but too much can cause serious problems. It's a lot like eating chocolate if you know what I mean.

CAMSHAFT

A major engine part and sometimes they break causing the engine to blowup. Not a good thing.

CHASSIS

The combination of a cars frame, interior and roll cage. Everything but the body or skin (fenders, hood, etc.)

CONTACT PATCH

The part of the tire that's actually touching the road. It really isn't very big when you think about it. A crew chief has to do everything he can to make it as big as possible.
