MARBLES (junk, garbage, grey area)Small bits of rubber worn off the tires, assorted rocks and gravel and all kind of junk blown to the outside of the corners by passing wind of the race cars. Race car tires are made of soft rubber that gets hot. When a car gets up in the "marbles" the tires pick up all sorts of stuff which causes the car to loose traction. The area just before the marbles is often called the "cushion". A driver may say, "I jumped the cushion and got into the marbles". Most tracks have big jet powered blowers that blow the marbles to the inside of the track during caution periods. |
