BACK MARKER

A car running off the pace or a car that is one or several laps down. Supposedly back markers are to stay out of the way of the faster cars, particularly the leaders. In fact NASCAR has a minimum speed for all racetracks. If cars are not running fast enough to get out of the way they are usually "black flagged" off the racetrack.
