FUEL CELLThis is the gas tank of the race car. It is about as high tech as you can get. It is a metal box that contains a tear proof bladder with foam inside. It is designed to flex during a crash but not to rupture. It has a check valve in the spout in case the car rolls over so the fuel is not spilled out. Its whole purpose is to contain the fuel and keep it from catching on fire in the advent of a crash. NASCAR has very rigid specifications on how fuel cells are manufactured and installed. |
